Questa è stata l’intuizione e la visione di Eunice Kennedy Shriver che per prima ha dato vita a questo grande movimento che sono gli Special Olympics nel lontano 1962.
La missione di Special Olympics va oltre lo sport promuovendo una cultura di inclusione e di rispetto a beneficio dell’intera comunità sensibilizzando l’opinione pubblica verso gli atleti con disabilità intellettive.
Lo strumento è lo sport unificato che vede coinvolti Atleti con e senza disabilità in formazioni miste.
Special Olympics si impegna per creare un mondo migliore, incoraggiando e promuovendo l’accettazione e l’inclusione delle persone, valorizzando le potenzialità di ognuno.
Oggi grazie al Club Rotary Viverone Lago di cui faccio parte mi è stata data una grande opportunità, quella di premiare gli atleti che hanno gareggiato oggi al palavela di Torino.

E’ stata una profonda esperienza educativa che mi ha trasmesso gioia ed entusiasmo
attraverso gli occhi di questi grandissimi atleti che si mettono in gioco per dimostrare al mondo
i loro talenti e le loro abilità superando ogni pregiudizio.

Special Olympics’ mission goes beyond sport by promoting a culture of inclusion and respect for the benefit of the entire community by raising public awareness of athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The tool is the unified sport involving Athletes with and without disabilities in mixed formations.
Special Olympics is committed to creating a better world, encouraging and promoting the acceptance and inclusion of people, enhancing everyone’s potential.
Today, thanks to the Viverone Lago Rotary Club of which I belong, I was given a great opportunity, that of rewarding the athletes who competed today at the Turin Palavela.

It was a profound educational experience that gave me joy and enthusiasm
through the eyes of these great athletes who get involved to demonstrate to the world
their talents and abilities overcoming any prejudice.
