The fascination of beauty
So what intrigues us so much about fashion and beauty photography?
“Without a doubt, the process of creating a shot. The actual moment of photography, when the styling and lighting have been completed and the only thing needed is to capture perfection.”
In fashion and beauty shoots, there are always so many changes of clothing, hairstyle and make-up and other elements. A photographer needs to make sure that all these changes are noticed, but at the same time he or she should not stray too far from the overall mood and theme of the project.
But it is also the moment when ideas are born and moodboards come to life, one of her favorite phases of the process.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in ten years in this industry, it’s that planning is great, but knowing what to do when plans fall through is even better!”
Lighting is one of his favorite things to organize. I don’t have a standard setup; instead, I prefer to experiment with equipment and effects.
“Sometimes my setups consist of one light, sometimes six lights. If done well, the lighting becomes the glue that holds all the other elements together, allowing the images to tell a clear story, thus drawing the viewer in.
“The flash allows me to work in the comfort of my studio while recreating natural light in all its shades, then mixing led or incandescent light to achieve special effects

Allora, cosa ci intriga così tanto della fotografia di moda e bellezza?
“Senza alcun dubbio, il processo di creazione di uno scatto. Il momento vero e proprio della fotografia, quando lo styling e l’illuminazione sono stati completati e l’unica cosa che serve è catturare la perfezione.”
Negli scatti di moda e beauty, ci sono sempre tanti cambi di abito, pettinatura e make-up e altri elementi. Un fotografo deve assicurarsi che tutti questi cambi vengano notati, ma allo stesso tempo non deve allontanarsi troppo dall’atmosfera e dal tema generale del progetto.
Ma è anche il momento in cui nascono le idee e le moodboard prendono vita, una delle sue fasi preferite del processo.
“Se c’è una cosa che ho imparato in dieci anni in questo settore è che pianificare è un’ottima idea, ma sapere come comportarsi quando i piani saltano è ancora meglio!”
L’illuminazione è una delle cose che preferisce organizzare. Non ho un setup standard, al contrario preferisco sperimentare con l’attrezzatura e gli effetti.
“A volte i miei setup sono composti da una luce, altre da sei luci. Se ben fatta, l’illuminazione diventa il collante che tiene insieme tutti gli altri elementi, permettendo alle immagini di raccontare una storia chiara, attirando quindi l’osservatore.
“Il flash mi consente di lavorare nel comfort del mio studio ricreando però la luce naturale in tutte le sue sfumature, mischiando poi luce led o ad incandescenza per ottenere effetti particolari
